I think you dealt with the lighting the best you could. I know how dark that pier is and the sky will almost always blow out in that setting. If you shot early morn or late afternoon you may have saved some sky (or you'd have to borrow all of Miah's lights). But, as far as making it work for that scene it looks like you nailed it.
The photo looks great and you captured what you envisioned. The only thing you could have done different is expose for the background and fill in the faces with your strobe but it would look very flash heavy from that angle with dark shadows on the sand behind them and dark black pier pilings. If you shot low looking high you would avoid the shadows but still have a black pier. So in the end you had to decide and you decided well. Like Rod said, the time of day would have changed things if you wanted to get more detail in the sky and water.

ReplyDeleteI used one 2ft x 2ft soft box 3 ft to the left of me just above their heads.
