Rod! Some pretty insane HDR work by David Nightingale. I also looked online for some basic HDR info and found this. It is a basic start to testing your hand at the craft. I think HDR would work magic for your static shots. Especially indoors, buildings, etc. It is also possible to take one RAW file and create multiple exposures and merge as an HDR like Nightingale did on the above picture.
